Why I Don’t Accept Insurance for Therapy
Honoring your healing without labels, limits, or timelines
Healing Isn’t a Diagnosis
Therapy is often viewed through a medical lens—something you pursue when something is “wrong,” something to fix. But healing is not always about treating illness. It’s about growth, insight, reconnection, and becoming more whole. It’s about finally facing what’s been avoided, or discovering parts of yourself that have long been silenced.
This kind of deep, transformative work doesn’t fit into an insurance checklist.
What Insurance Requires
Insurance companies typically require a formal mental health diagnosis and documentation of “medical necessity” in order to cover therapy sessions. They may also limit the number of sessions, dictate the types of treatment, and periodically ask for proof that you're “improving.”
In short, they insert themselves into a process that should be personal and private—and can unintentionally shape or even restrict the kind of care you receive.
What I Believe Instead
I believe therapy should be led by your experience, not by a policy manual.
It should move at a pace that supports your nervous system, your story, your readiness—not at the speed of a billing cycle.
And it should be a space free from judgment or labels, especially for those exploring questions of meaning, identity, or long-held emotional pain.
By not working with insurance, I’m able to offer care that’s more flexible, creative, and aligned with your goals—not an insurance company’s definition of “progress.”
This Is About Freedom
When we work outside the insurance system, we free ourselves to go deeper. To stay longer if we need to. To pause, return, or explore the gray areas of life that don’t always come with a diagnosis code. It’s not about rejecting help—it’s about creating space for a different kind of help. One that respects the complexity of being human.
If This Resonates With You
If you’re seeking therapy that honors your story and your pace—not just your symptoms—I’d be honored to walk with you.
